Über Fab: Glynis Elisa Mahrholz

Q&A
By Tiff of HERZEN Lifestyle Project
Height: 174cm
Nationality - German
Hometown - Cologne
Birthday - 27.02.1989

1. When and how did you start modelling?
Glynis - I started modelling about a year ago here in Berlin. A scout of my mother agency (SeeDS Management) found me on the street. I did not think about being a model before and I did not know the agency because I was not familiar with any model agency. I went to school at that time and I was not interested at first. But then when I finished school I contacted the agency and since then I became a part of it.

2. What’s the best thing about being a model?
Glynis - Actually the best thing is that you get to know a lot of people! I’m an open - hearted person, really talkative and I love to meet new people and talk to them. You get to know people from all around the world and it’s possible to find amazing friendships because not all of them are superficial and arrogant.

3. What differs modelling from other careers?
Glynis - Okay maybe it’s the same with every other career but I think modelling career could end as quickly as it started but modelling can open amazing opportunities for a person.
-Yeah, it’s always safe to have a fall back.

4. What countries have you been to? [For work]
Glynis - Unfortunately up to now I was not able to travel because of my studies in the university. But 2010 will be the year. So let’s see where it takes me!
-Good luck to your career! We can’t wait to see you on top! :)

5. What are the 3 projects/jobs you've done which you consider the best?
Glynis - I cannot name three special jobs. All the jobs I did where great. I had no bad experience at all.... actually I love the runway jobs because there you are with all the guys and you know most of them and it’s always a lot of fun :-)
-It’s good to enjoy your work, you know what they say “treat your work as a game and you’ll be playing all your life.” :)

6. Who's your favourite model?
Glynis - Hmm.... I don’t have a favourite one but I really like Katrin Thormann.

7. What’s your personal style when dressing up?
Glynis - It’s just all about combination! Colourful! I love colours... I don’t like wearing dark clothes.
-We uber dig your fun style!

8. What’s your best asset?
Glynis - My character! Some say the character does not play a big role in this business.... In my opinion they are definitely wrong! My attitude and charisma is the best about me and I’m such a funny gal. It’s fun to work with me and I'm uncomplaining.
-We totally agree! A person's character is always important!

9. What’s your message to those aspiring models?
Glynis - I think the most important thing is that you stay as you are. Don’t let the business change your character! You always have to try doing the best of a job and keep the fun.

Glynis is a certified fun girl, we really enjoyed interviewing her. She's truly a warm-hearted carefree person who seems to be so easy to be with. We bet it's always gonna be fun to be with her anytime. We love how she responded joyfully in this project and we'll always love her down-to-earth attitude. Glynis we'll be waiting and watching for more of your future spectacular projects, and we will always support you!

Mr. Congeniality : Alec van Dierendonck

Q&A
By Tiff of HERZEN Lifestyle Project

Height - 186cm
Nationality – Filipino
Home town - Davao City, Philippines
Birthday - November 6, 1984

1. When and how did you become a model?
Alec - It was a hot summer day in the Southern part of the Philippines in a place called Samal Island, a beautiful paradise with crystal clear water and a tropical heat atmosphere just off the coast of Davao City. I met fashion director Jacky Aquino and Keren Pascual. They invited me to Manila to be part of the BUM Equipment Show. It was a great experience and I wanted to stay and pursue the industry back then but, at that time I was finishing my studies in a university and I did not want to abandon it. Good thing I did not. Anyways it was the year 1996 the year me and my family migrated to the Philippines. I had to adjust to a complete different culture and mentality. I was born in the Netherlands in the place called Leiden. Life in Europe is a complete different story. So you can imagine the culture shock I had to face. It was a challenge and learning school. I had to learn the local languages and way of life. Over all it was one hell of a ride. After I graduated from college I moved to Makati (Philippines). In that same year I made my decision, I met the branch manager of Blue Brothers Inc. and he offered me to become part of the Mr. Lee campaign nationwide so I took his offer and went to Manila to do the project. During that project I met several people from the industry and it sort of had a snowball effect one thing lead to the other and I landed more modelling projects all around the metro. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
- What a story! We love the fact that you pursued your studies first, a real role model!

2. What differs modelling from other careers?
Alec - Well first thing with modelling….It’s a passion and artistic life style you really have to want it and there will be a lot of challenges and disappointments along the way. Always keep a positive mind and constantly re-invent yourself without forgetting who you really are and where you’re coming from. Treasure your roots and keep your feet on the ground. It will help you in the long run to see the bright side of life. Another thing is be as diverse as possible and mix your interest up do different things so to speak. Don’t focus only on modelling because, it has a very short life span. It is also a very saturated industry and someday you’ll be a face out and new models will come and overrule the market. But never get discourage dare to be different and you’ll stand out. Coming back to the question modelling in other words is not a complete career it’s a hobby or passion that could be added to a long term goal. Always have a fall back and you’ll be fine.

3. What’s the best experience you've ever had from modelling?
Alec - My best experience was when I did the Nokia campaign in Vietnam in Saigon City. It was for the fashion series. A nationwide coverage.
-cool!!!

4. If you're not a model, what would you be doing right now?
Alec - I would be in the corporate world which I am now because modelling is a part time job for me at the moment. My real job is in the Pharmaceutical Industry and I do acting and photography too as a hobby. You can check out my website at www.alecvan.com just register your name and other details.
- Nice!

5. What countries have you been to?
Alec - Travels for modelling related jobs: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines
For business: I have travelled in Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh and India.
Personal travel: Asia: Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Hong Kong, Macao. Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana. Europe: Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, England, Italy, Switzerland, Greece and Finland. South America: Ecuador
- A certified globetrotter!

6. Who’s your favourite model?
Alec - Adriana Lima
-VS angels are <3

7. What’s your personal style when dressing up?
Alec - I like to dress up in casual tropical wear like Hawaiian shirt and sometimes in formal black.
- Who doesn’t love the beach? :)

8. What’s your best asset?
Alec - My eyes.
- We’re lost....in your eyes! haha! We just love your gorgeous eyes!

9. What’s your advice to those aspiring models?
Alec - Be real and never think you’re in the clouds. Be humble and down to earth.

Alec is really a nice laid back guy amidst his heavyweight status. We really, truly, overly (and all the “ly”. lol) appreciated his being cooperative in this interview and for that we are grateful. Alec actually inspired us in a lot of things during this fun interview and we are really proud that he is our featured model today. To Alec, we are happy that you took time to answer our questions wholeheartedly, we wish you the best in all your good actions and we will be supporting you all the way! Thank you again!

Fierce + Edgy = Natalie Felicity

Q&A
By Tiff of HERZEN Lifestyle Team

Height - 5'11"
Nationality – Australian
Hometown – Sydney
Birthday - 18/06/1988

1.When and how did you start modelling?
Natalie - People started approaching me in the street to do modelling from the age of 15. It wasn't until I was 18 that I decided to give it a go and joined Scene Model Management. I started getting booked for fashion shows and photo shoots and discovered I really liked it. Then I regretted that I hadn't started earlier.
- at least your on top of your game now 

2. What’s the best thing about being a model?
Natalie - There are so many great things. It’s a profession that allows you to travel all over the world. I've worked with so many amazing, creative individuals like photographers, makeup artists and stylists who are immensely passionate and talented. I like it that I have friends who are models all over the world.

3. What differs modelling from other careers?
Natalie - Modelling isn't secure and there are a lot of uncertainties. It’s not a stable career choice and it can be both fun and heartbreaking

4. What countries have you been to? [For work]
Natalie - I’ve been to Singapore, Thailand and the US and I'll go to at least another 3 countries this year.

5. What are the 3 projects/jobs you've done which you consider the best?
Natalie - That's really difficult to answer. An advertisement I did for Toni and Guy was beneficial because it was on billboards all over the UK and Asia. In Thailand I got good tear sheets from shoots with Image Magazine and Preview Magazine.

6. who’s the model you look up to?
Natalie - I don't really look up to any famous models. I more so admire friends or other models I've worked with for their strong work ethic. My friend Dominique Berube is amazing because she has a repertoire of hundreds of different poses and drives her own career forward. This industry is all about hard work and dedication.
-sounds like she’s really someone to look up to, we hope to interview her one of these days.

7. What’s your personal style when dressing up?
Natalie - My motto is there's no such thing as OTT (over the top)

8. What’s your strength as a model?
Natalie - Clients usually like the fact that I'm good at acting. A lot of people don't know I did acting before I did modelling so that was my first passion. Also I'm good at networking and I often get booked by clients again. Surprisingly I'm taller than most models I've met.

9. What’s your message to those aspiring models?
Natalie - Work really hard and always give 100% effort. You should practice posing and walking in your spare time. Be nice to everyone and never say anything bad about anyone.
-very nice and effective advice!

Natalie is such a true person. She’s also easy to talk to all throughout this interview, we really appreciate her every answer because we felt the sincerity in it. She may look edgy and fierce but we feel like it’s easy to be at ease with her cause despite of being an edgy and fierce model she remains grounded and real to herself. Natalie, we will always support you in your good endeavours.

For the kill: Ross Crawford

Q&A
By Tiff of HERZEN Lifestyle Team

Height - 6' 1
Nationality – English
Hometown – London
Birthday - 26/08/92

1. When and how did you start modelling?
Ross - I started about seven months ago when I was sixteen.
- FRESH!

2. What's the best thing about being a model?
Ross - It's a laugh, really! Pretty much. Always new faces, places and on.

3. What differs modelling from other careers?
Ross - Well, modelling is far more enjoyable, because most of the time you’re always doing something new. Castings can be a bit of a drag, running from one side of the town to the other, six times a day, but mostly it's all fun. And I don’t see many other careers where you get your hair and makeup done and dressed by someone else before you start ha.

4. What countries have you been to?[for work]
Ross - Because of college, I can't take any time out, so I've only stayed in England, but I'm looking to go Tokyo (Japan) this summer, which would be cool.

5. What are the 3 projects/jobs you've done which you consider the best?
Ross - Best in terms of fun? London Fashion Week was good, shows are well cool anyway. Er Marina and the Daimonds -Hollywood music video was a fucking long day, but was rather chilled out and sick. Oh, and Attitude Magazine was, er, interesting to say the least.

6. Who's your favourite model?
Ross - Favourite model? Myself, probably.

7. What's your personal style when dressing up?
Ross - Tight jeans, 70's leather jacket, a t-shirt I aint washed in 5 months cut to shreds and some boots.
- love the style!

8. What's your best asset?
Ross - My best asset is my peni..... NO. Probably my nipples. They're tiny! Ha
-lmao

9. What’s your message to those aspiring models?
Ross - Don't take any notice of the pricks in the industry, because there are a few. Be confident and have fun!

Ross is really not your average teenage model. His erratic (which we mean positive) ways never failed to amuse us, but also makes us think on the side. He may be young and fresh in the industry but we know for sure that he’ll be making his way on the catwalks of the best names in fashion industry in no time. And just in case you’re wondering, I don’t think he is related to Gossipgirl’s Chuck Bass, Ed Westwick or to Kate Moss’s ex Pete Doherty or even that vampire you're thinking but he’s just as gorgeous if not more. Ross, we’ll be supporting you in your career, we know you’ll make it.

Can't get enough of asian, can't get enough of Chiu Chan

Q&A By Tiff of HERZEN Lifestyle Team

AKA - Carmen Chan
Height - 5'9.5/ 176cm,
Nationality - Chinese
Hometown - Hong Kong,China
Birthday - 9th Jan 1990

1.When and how did you become a model?
Carmen - I started modeling in late May, June in 2009. I started by involving in a TV commercial of Motorola and spot out by a hairstylist. He took me to some test shoots working with some professional people, photographer makeup artist etc.  The photos are great and then many people started to find me out more and cooperate with various local and non-local photographers. I also participated in some fashion shows but photo shooting is my strength I would say. (I liked modeling because of catwalk so I will try more in this field, hopefully getting more chances and fashion week is my ultimate goal!)
-we absolutely believe you'll work it, may it be on photo shoots or in the runway

2.What differs modeling from other careers?
Carmen - Modeling is a diverse and fun activity. Firstly, you could interact with different people, across the industries such as fashion, photography, makeup and hair. You see a lot more things and hear a lot. So you grow more by working with people who are older than you.  Secondly, you get a lot of opportunities to travel. Thirdly, you need a lot of energy and right attitude to get things done! Everything is a challenge in modeling and I love challenges! =]
-we so love your attitude!way to go! :)

3.What's the best experience you've ever had from modeling?
Carmen - I had many wonderful experience although I did little modeling when I was in school in HongKong. I love creative test shoots because everything is so new and experimental, I get so excited when I have fun during the process and see so many gorgeous photos in the end!

4.If you're not a model, what would you be doing right now?
Carmen - I am actually a year 2 university student from The University of Hong Kong, doing international business. I used to study in the UK when I was in high school.  I am so glad that I have a chance to go to Paris for exchange (study at Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris), so that I can try modeling in Paris as well! (I just can't miss this valuable chance!)
-Paris is just awesome!we hope you'll make it on the top one of these days!

5.What countries have you been to?(for work)
Carmen - Hong Kong is where I based in so far. But definitely trying to explore other opportunities. Like right now, I am going to Paris, also trying London for half a year. If things go well, maybe other places in Europe too. In the future, I will possibly go to Malaysia and Singapore, there is a TV show wants to feature me as one of the Asian new faces and KLFW. Although I have only been staying in Hong Kong.

6.Who's your favorite model?
Carmen - I love Asian faces and it is nice to know that Asian models are having more recognition and acceptance. for Korean, I love Daul Kim because of her style and character (so sad that she passed away recently, what a loss for the modeling world), In china, I like Du Juan. And most of all, I LOVE Ai Tominaga from Japan. She is super elegant, versatile and extraordinary. I have to admit that because of resemblance in terms of the facial features, I like her more! For others I like Karlie Kloss, daria werbowy, Natalia Vodianova, Lara Stone.
-Yes,yes,yes! They are all truly amazing!

7.What's your personal style when dressing up?
Carmen - I like being myself. I just wear comfortable clothes and most of the time no one noticed I am a model because my dressing style is quite low profile (laughs). But this is what I have to try working on. I have to build a strong character on styling myself. Now I am going to have a sharp short haircut I can look more different, same as dressing up.

8.What's your best asset? My eyes and my versatility. I used to question my parents why I have single eyelids but all my family members don't. But I found (and people told me) that my eyes are most special point of myself. I can also handle different styles like strong makeup and from anything like boylish to very feminine.  I like to explore the extreme posing and try different things since I think modeling is an art =]
-modeling,fashion = art!

9.What's your advice to those aspiring models?
Carmen - Modeling needs huge determination. Sometimes luck is important. I don't wait for opportunities and grab them. I create them and try my best without being satisfied at any point. Networking is very useful. You can start with some good photo shoots, one or two is enough to let people see your clean facial features. Then hopefully many others can see you and if the photographers, makeup artists want to cooperate with you, you will then build a stronger portfolio. Being sincere and kind to people is important since with modeling, you learn a lot by interacting with people. Therefore, outgoing character is a must : ) Also, I think treating it as an interest than as a job would be easier. If you think modeling is only a money-making tool, you cannot enjoy the fun part of it.
-we truly agree in everything you said!

We have to admit, Carmen has a very edgy look that's why we can't help but to feature her here. One pose, shoot and voila! Fierce! That's why we are very very grateful that she really took time in to answer our questions for her and we loved the fact that her efforts was really overwhelming. We will support you all through out Carmen!Bon voyage!

Dj KidCut - At first it's a hard work. There is a lot of fun, but you must work the whole time. Check new music, coordinate your gigs and do promotion. In Germany they say: From nothing you become nothing. The beginning is very hard.
very well said.
